This guide will assist in
getting your website up and running. Please read the entire guide,
from top to bottom and follow all instructions. Everything is
clearly explained and all your questions should be answered within
this guide. Information is constantly updated, to address troubles
and questions previous clients encountered. Over time and after
thousands of new account signups, this guide has become highly
effective. If you have any suggestions (after setting up your
account) on how to improve this guide, we would be happy to hear
from you, too. |
|
STEP 1: Update your DNS (Domain Name Servers) |
|
Before your website can be visible on the Internet,
you must register a domain name and configure the DNS (Domain
Name Servers). If you registered a new domain name with us (at
the same time you signed up for your new hosting account), you
don't need to do a thing. Our system is highly automated and
already configured your domain name servers for you.
Therefore, you can expect your domain to resolve (start working)
within the next 24-72 hours.
If you have your domain
registered elsewhere, you will have to change your name
servers with your current registrar (the place you registered
your domain). The name servers assigned to your account (the
ones you want to use/change to) can be found within your account
information email. In order to better serve our clients, we have
put togeth er a collection of movie demos, which show "how
to change your domain name servers" with most popular registrars.
DNS Movie
Demos:
If no demo exists for your specific registrar or you require
further assistance, you would need to contact your domain name
registrar for support. Then, after you have successfully changed
your domain name servers, your domain should start working with
your new account in 24-72 hours. |

received when you first got your account, which has all your
account information, such as username & password.
Prerequisite 2:
YOUR DOMAIN NAME MUST BE RESOLVING TO THE SERVER!
If you have not
yet followed step one of our quick start guide, you must complete
step one of the quick start guide before you will be able to
use this feature. Further, if you recently completed step one
of the quick start guide, it make take up to 72 hours before
you will be able to use this feature, as your domain must be
resolving (pointing) to the server where your new hosting account
is on.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

as contact.html, or aboutus.html (instead of index.html). The
website page can be named "whatever.html"--just make
sure it ends in ".html" (no quotes). Then, you can
go back and edit your main page to contain a link to your new
website page. The link would be "http://yourdomain.com/whatever.html"
(no quotes). |

STEP 4: Setup E-Mail |
|
To setup e-mail, we strongly recommend following our Email
Guide:
Email Guide: continue on this page |
|
|
|
This guide will help you setup your first email
account in CPanel and configure Microsoft Outlook. We wrote this
guide to be extremely detailed and easy to understand. With the
help of this guide, anyone should be able to setup their first
email account with ease. As with any computer application, you
will need to follow the directions and read the entire guide
or things will not work.
|
Setting Up Email
Accounts |
|
To setup an email account, login to Cpanel and follow these
simple steps:
- Click [ Mail ]
- Click [ Add / Remove Accounts ]
- Click [ Add Account ]
The next page is self-explanatory. For the email option you
would enter a username. Then select a password and set a quota.
The quota is the maximum amount of disk space the account can
use. The quota field is optional, so you can leave it blank.
Now, you will want to access your email account to send/receive
emails. To do this you can either use web-mail or an email client.
We recommend using Outlook Express, which is included with Microsoft
Windows. To learn how to setup Outlook Express, you will need
these settings:
Mail Server: POP3
POP3 Server: mail.yourdomain.com (replace with your
actual domain name)
SMTP Server: mail.yourdomain.com (replace
with your actual domain name)
Account Name: user@yourdomain.com (Use
your full email address)
Password: This is the password for the above
email account
* You can see screen shots on how to setup Outlook Express
[Here]
Enable SMTP Authentification (Required):
- Open Outlook (Express).
- Click [ Tools ] on the top menu
- From the dropdown menu select [ Accounts
]
- Highlight your account and select [ Properties
]
- Click on the [ Servers ] tab.
- Look for Outgoing Mail Server (bottom)
- Under that, check the my server requires
authentification box [ X ]
- Click [ Apply ] and then click [
Ok ]
Loggin into Webmail:
You can access web-mail at http://yourdomain.com/webmail.
Obviously, you need to replace "yourdomain.com" with
your actual domain name. Then, a popup will appears asking for
a username and password. The username would be a full email address
and the password would be the password for that email account.
Again, it is NOT asking for your cpanel login details!
Notice: Email
will not work properly until your domain has resolved to our
server! |
|
Email Troubleshooting |
|
I can receive email, but I cannot send email:
If you can receive email, but you cannot send email, assure
you enabled SMTP authentification. Detailed instructions how
how to do this can be found above. If SMTP authentification is
enabled and you have ensured the above steps were conducted properly,
your ISP (Internet Service Provider) may be blocking the port
needed to send email. You would want to contact your ISP and
see if they are blocking port 25, which is required in order
to send email through Outlook.
I am still having trouble sending email:
Try using your Internet Service Providers SMTP mail server.
This will only effect the way email is sent and has no impact
on the way you receive email. Please contact your ISP for their
SMTP server information or you can see if your ISP's SMTP server
is listed below:
http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/documents/1/1989/
How to change to your ISP's SMTP server in Outlook (Express):
- Open Outlook (Express).
- Click [ Tools ] on the top menu
- From the dropdown menu select [ Accounts
]
- Highlight your account and select [ Properties
]
- Click on the [ Servers ] tab.
- Click [ Server Information ] on the
top menu
- Change outgoing server (smtp) to your ISP's
SMTP server.
- Then, Look for Outgoing Mail Server (bottom)
- Under that, check the my server requires
authentification box [ X ]
- Then, on the right click [ Settings ]
- Under logon information, select [ log on
using ]
- Enter your ISP email username & password
- Check the "remember my password"
box [ X ]
- Click [ OK ] and top box will go away.
- Now, Click [ Apply ] and then [
Ok ]
That's it, now your account will send email using your ISP's
mail server. Your email will still appear from the same email
address as people are sending to. Therefore, if your email address
is user@domain.com, your
email will appear from user@domain.com.
Domain.com being your domain with Acenet, not your ISP's domain.
For further assistance, you will need to contact ISP.

Most Frequently Asked Questions:
- Why do I see a list of files when I enter
my domain name in a web browser?
- You need to name your main website page "index.html"
(no quotes & all lowercase).
- Why are the images not displaying on my website
pages? Images are not displaying
Having trouble displaying your images on
ANY of your webpages? Well, read this article and follow
all suggested steps. Then, you will become a professional at
displaying images on your webpages.
Step one (1)
First, your domain must be resolving (pointing)
to our server, or your wepages, nor images will display. Well,
you ask, how do I know if my domain is resolving to your server?
It's simple, but there are two different steps. The first step
applys to clients who just registered a new domain name. All
you have to do is enter your domain name in the web browser.
If it displays anything, you good to go. If you get an error,
you must allow more time for your domain to resolve. Now, if
your domain was pointing to a different hosting company, you
will want to upload a web page to our server that does not exist
on your other (old hosts) server. upload any web page to /public_html
and name it acenet.html. Now, type yourdomain.com/acenet.html
in the web browser and see if the page displays. If it does,
your domain is pointing to our server. If it does not, you msut
allow more time (24-72 hours) for your domain to resolve (assuming
you already changed your name servers).
Step two (2):
Assure you are linking your images properly.
If you image is located within your public_html fodler, you would
like it using the path "/image.gif".
example:
<img src="/image.gif">
Okay, lets assume the image is in a folder
called "images" and the images folder is in your public_html
folder. You would then use:
<img src="/images/image.gif">
* note: all your images & webpages must
be within your public_html folder!
Step Three (3):
Okay, so far so good and your images are still
not displaying. Well, next step is to login to Cpanel and DISABLE
Hotlink Protection. You will see a icon on the main page of Cpanel
and a text link stating "hotlink protection". For further
documentation on how to disable this feature, consult the CPanel
documentation, however, it's very simple.
Okay, well, I bet step three or above fixed
your issues and your web page is now properly displayin your
image(s).
Good luck with the rest of your site |
